Ode to the Tomato

A celebration of the tomato, Greek culture, and the ingredients that have shaped a civilisation.

The project opens with the Heirloom Muse, a figure draped in olive green, seated on a tin of extra virgin olive oil, holding a ripe red tomato in her hand. Her head is crowned with a kotinos, the wild olive wreath awarded to champions at the ancient Olympic Games, here woven together with green tomatoes and daisies. She looks beyond the frame, unhurried and timeless.

The tomato then moves to the table. A Greek salad reimagined: layers of golden and red heirloom tomatoes in a crackle-glazed ceramic bowl, dressed with olive oil, topped with dots of feta cheese mousse, rings of pickled onion, and scattered olive paste. Familiar in spirit, refined in execution.

To drink, a Dirty Martini the Greek way. Instead of olive brine, feta cheese brine clouds the glass with a pale, milky haze, the martini garnished with green olives on a pin and accompanied by a bottle of Vinyes Tortuga natural wine. Salty, sharp, and deeply considered.

Three acts, one ingredient, one culture. The tomato not as a simple vegetable, but as a symbol of place, memory, and pride.
