The Tower

A baguette, a brioche, butter, a green heirloom tomato, a prickly pear, a wedge of Räßkäse, and a knife. Stacked one on top of the other into an unlikely tower, balanced somewhere between still life and sculpture. The prickly pear sits at the top like a crown, honey running down the sides of the cheese below it.

The same ingredients then spread out across a burlap cloth, laid flat and unhurried. A baguette and a bottle of natural wine held up side by side. A honey dipper resting in a pool of gold next to a single prickly pear.

It ends simply: an open slice of sourdough brioche, butter, Räßkäse, heirloom tomato, and a drizzle of chilli honey. Everything the tower promised, finally at rest on a plate.
