A Taste of Solidarity

A day centered on the simple yet radical idea that community can be a form of action. The panels brought honest, necessary conversations into the room, and the people who showed up to listen, ask questions, and stay present made it feel like something real. This is what it looks like when a community refuses to look away.

The vendors who showed up with their recipes, their crafts, their hands, and their hearts. The tables were full. The hall was warm. The feeling of love, safety, and solidarity, and the details that made it feel like home: flower arrangements at the reception, blooms sold for donation, balloons for the kids.

@lestinian dates and Sudanese stews, dumplings, baklava, and fried chicken sandwiches. A bake sale for Rojava with people bringing homemade cakes and pastries to sell, every slice a donation. P@lestinian ceramics and crochet watermelon earrings. Tatreez embroidery workshops and a food performance around akkoub, a wild thistle P@lestinians have foraged for generations, and we discovered on the spot that in our homeland, Greece, known as γαϊδουράγκαθο (yai-dou-RANG-ka-tho), we cook the same way. Some connections run deeper than we realise.

Food has always been one of the most honest forms of solidarity. You don’t just donate, you learn the story behind it, you sit, you eat, you share a table with strangers who become less strange with every bite.
